There are numerous alternatives for the collection and treatment of storm water runoff. The ultimate goal is to remove all sediment, debris and other pollutants. The removal of the pollutants is often difficult requiring a treatment process that is driven by a required detention time, which is sometimes not possible.

There are also many collection devices on the market that fit into curb inlet vaults or in the ground adjacent to impermeable runoff surfaces. A few of these devices work very well and require minimal maintenance to remain functional for extended periods of time with considerable debris loading. The majority, however require extensive maintenance and cleaning after each storm event or they plug and become dysfunctional.

An attractive alternative to individual vault debris collection is to install an outfall screen which has the capacity to handle much greater flows. It is very practical to screen flows of over 1000 cfs (cubic feet per second) and remove all floating debris and floating contaminants such as oil. The outfall screens consist of tilted wire coanda wedge wire that is a proven technology for liquid solids separation.

Hydroscreen's engineers will assist the client or his consultant with the design of an outfall screen that will meet the requirements of the discharge. There is often a significant economic advantage in the utilization of a larger maintenance free outfall screening structure. Most stormwater collection systems afford the possibility to treat smaller flows before they combine into a totally unmanageable flow.
